Centre For Excellence – explicit teaching of literacy internship program

The Centre for Excellence in the Explicit Teaching of Literacy aims to strengthen and extend the explicit teaching of literacy of primary-aged students.  This important strategy is part of the Government’s commitment to ensure Western Australian students develop the literacy skills needed for lifelong learning.

The Centre partnership comprises Curtin University, the Department, and selected public primary schools with strong track records of student literacy achievement, Jandakot being one of these schools.

Over a three-year period, the Centre will:

  • provide a funded, four-term Internship Program; and
  • develop related resources for all public primary teachers and school leaders.

STEM enterprise school

The STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) skills strategy aims to build a globally competitive and innovative workforce with the skills to drive Western Australia’s technological future and create job opportunities.

As a STEM partner school we work with other schools to develop student enterprise skills including:

  • problem solving
  • digital literacy
  • communication
  • teamwork
  • critical thinking
  • creativity and innovation
  • intercultural understanding
  • enthusiasm for learning.

We engage in a design and innovation process - LAUNCH - to support learner engagement in STEM. We are collecting evidence of the impact of innovation on learning and engagement to share with other schools.
